Name:
Stormbergia
(named after the Stormberg series, a group of fossil bearing
formations which include the Clarens, Elliot and Molteno
Formations).
Phonetic: Storm-ber-g-ah
Named By: R. J. Butler - 2005.
Classification: Chordata, Reptilia, Dinosauria,
Ornithischia, Genasauria, Lesothosauridae.
Species: S. dangershoeki
(type).
Diet: Herbivore.
Size: Uncertain due to lack of post cranial remains.
Known locations: South Africa - Upper Elliot
Formation.
Time period: Hettangian/Sinemurian of the Jurassic.
Fossil representation: Partial skull material.
Based upon the description of a partial skull, the validity of the Stormbergia genus has been questioned as some have proposed that the skull may represent the fully grown adult form of Lesothosaurus. If this is correct then Stormbergia would actually be a synonym to Lesothosaurus.
