Chuandongocoelurus
(Hollow tail).
Phonetic: Chu-an-dong-o-coe-lu-rus.
Named By: He - 1984.
Classification: Chordata, Reptilia, Dinosauria,
Saurischia, Theropoda, Tetanurae, Megalosauroidea.
Species: C. primitivus
(type).
Diet: Carnivore.
Size: Roughly estimated to be about 4 meters long
for the holotype.
Known locations: China, Sichuan Province -
Dashanpu Formation - Lower Shaximiao Formation.
Time period: Bathonian/Callovian of the Jurassic.
Fossil representation: Partial post cranial
remains, probably of a juvenile/subadult.
A little known theropod dinosaur from China, a 2010 study by Benson et al found Chuandongocoelurus to probably be related to the more complete Monolophosaurus. The partial remains of Chuandongocoelurus are thought to be from a juvenile/subadult individual, and coupled with the overall incomplete nature of them, it is impossible to establish an accurate size estimate for this dinosaur.
