A procolophonomorph parareptile from Russia, Rhipaeosaurus lived during the Mid Permian. Rhipaeosaurus was originally placed within its own group the Rhipaeosauridae, though later analysis seems to place Rhipaeosaurus somewhere between being a nycteroleterid to a basal pareiasaur.
